When temperatures drop in San Antonio, more people come to CUB looking for warmth, safety, and a hot meal. Winter weather can be dangerous for our neighbors who live outside, and we prepare in advance so we can respond quickly when a freeze arrives.
Below is a clear list of what helps us most during cold-weather nights.
🧤 Priority Needs (Warm Items)
• 🛏️ Used blankets
• 💤 Sleeping bags (new or used)
• 🧤 Gloves
• 🧥 Winter jackets
• 👖 Men’s sweatpants
• 👖 Men’s jeans
🛌 Extra Comfort Items (Optional but Helpful)
• 🧘 Sleeping mats for the sanctuary (very helpful if a donor wants to purchase)
• 💤 If mats aren’t available, additional sleeping bags are always useful
🍽️ Food for Cold-Weather Breakfasts & Dinners
Breakfast items:
• 🥣 Oatmeal
• 🥐 Biscuits
• 🧃 Juice (individual bottles or boxes)
• 🍰 Breakfast pastries
• ☕ Cocoa mix + 🍡 marshmallows
• 🥤 8 oz cups with lids
Dinner support:
• 🍪 Cookie dough
• 🍲 Additional dinner items
• 📦 To-go containers
🧰 Other Helpful Supplies
• ❄️ Ice melt (for frozen sidewalks)
• 🧼 Biohazard cleaning supplies (for restroom cleanup)
🏨 Financial Support for Crisis Situations
There are times when families with children or vulnerable adults cannot safely stay outside during a freeze.Funding for hotel rooms allows us to respond immediately and get them indoors.
