A journey through 2024 2024 was a year of transition for CUB; from a church with services for the unhoused to a Christ-centered, community-based non-profit serving the unhoused that includes their church. Look at what God did over the past two years…
More than 55,000 meals served from March to December 2020 to support the unsheltered unhoused during the onset of the pandemic; from 3 nights a week to 7 nights a week which continues to this day
More than 3,000 bags of clothing each year along with more than 6,000 support items (backpacks, shoes, coats, blankets, belts, hats, etc.) given out; supported community partners with cold weather items during emergency shelters in both years
Medical, dental and veterinary clinics held on a regular basis; mobile library with free books monthly
Worship and church services, bible studies, prayer on the street, and life skills restored
The year started very busy and very cold! With three rounds of emergency winter shelter between January and February, strong serving our CUB family. We thought were ready for 2025, but as Proverbs 19:21 says, "Many plans are in a man's heart, but the counsel of the Lord will stand." In early 2025, we learned our beloved Executive Director, Dianne Talbert, had cancer and on June 2, 2025, she entered into the presence of our Savior. Though we prayed for a different outcome, we trust in God's sovereignty and that His ways and thoughts are higher than ours, as bible says in Isaiah 55:8-9.
Through trusting in His plan, God provided CUB with an amazing new Executive Director, Valerie Narvaez, who beautifully steps into the shoes of the spiritual mother who nurtured and discipled her into the powerful leader, visionary, and advocate she is for our houseless community today. Her lived experience and transformation from life on the streets to life in Jesus is a powerful testimony that highlights the mission and vision of CUB. It also provides her the valuable wisdom, insight, and relationships for leading CUB into the plans God has for His kingdom through this ministry.
As we PRAISE and GLORIFY God for His provision in leadership, we continue to pray for the provision to expand the territory God has given us. This would allow us to provide additional support services like showers, lockers, and washers and dryers to meet the daily needs of those without homes. In addition, we want to expand Christian education and life skills classes, assess and refer our guests to long-term care, open our computer lab and phone charging area, and restore outreach opportunities with our nonprofit partners in the community.
From one building to five with plans to build an additional facility to house the showers, laundromat, and barbershop we prayed for currently being worked. We are excited about this new season and humbled that God assigned us to this new, expanded vision to support the people He so dearly loves. Some of this new vision has already been realized and other pieces are being ushered in incrementally. There is a place for you! Come join the team!
We seek your support for our vision and we are grateful for how God directs you to give, whether it is financially or practically through the offering of your gifts, talents, and time. We serve Jehovah Jireh and we know He provides everything needed to fulfill His purpose. If you are moved by this vision, God may be beckoning you to be a part of its manifestation. We seek individuals for a prayer team, those to provide skilled labor, leaders to lend program development skills, servants to monitor upcoming services, teachers to teach, and givers to sow seed to build the facilities that are being designed. If you are touched by any part of this project, visit the contact page and tell us what gifts you would like to share with us!
